Lately, I've been running 20 second sprints on the treadmill at 11 MPH. Interval training as they call it.

I do the following:

2 minute warm-up at 4 mph

Then right to 11MPH for 20 seconds on a 2.0 incline followed by a 40 second rest by straddling the treadmill. (standing still)

I do this for about 8-10 minutes for a total of 8 sprints or so.

I cool down with a 3.5 walk.

My heart rate is ROARING!!!

I don't believe in that long, drawn out 30 minute jog that EVERYONE seems to do.

Any thoughts?

I do this too...HIIT..I warm up for 5 mins at 6.5..and then do 9.5 for a minute-4 times..walking a minute between. I end up running/walking about 1.25 miles. Its good stuff.

I do this too. On the treadmill and bike. Short (20 minute) intense interval sessions burn fat for hours after your done, much like lifting weights.

For something new just switch up your interval times and intensity.

Sprint on a track or something. You'll go faster than 11 mph and the workout is better.
I used to sprint 100m as hard as i could, then walk the next 200m and do it again until i did 8 laps (2 mi). Its a great workout and the starting and stopping really works your whole body.
Theres an article floating around somewhere about how sprinting is pretty much the best thing you can do workout-wise. Its a totall body thing. Most people just don't have the discipline to do it--fuck, i dont anymore
